Description
Cynthia Francis is a 56 year old obese female with a history of hypothyroidism who presents for a blood pressure recheck after an elevated reading of 132/74 mmHg at a workplace health fair three weeks ago. She recently relocated to the area five months ago and has not established care with a primary care provider or been monitoring her BP at home. She reports a high-fat, high-salt diet, physical inactivity, and a family history of heart disease. She is asymptomatic, denying chest pain, shortness of breath, leg swelling, fatigue, weakness, numbness, tingling, polyuria, polydipsia, or polyphagia. Today, her vital signs are within normal limits: BP 118/72 mmHg bilaterally, pulse 83 bpm, respiratory rate 18, temperature 98.8°F, and oxygen saturation 99%. She is 65 inches tall, weighs 188 pounds (BMI 31.3). Exam reveals an alert, oriented obese female with otherwise unremarkable findings.
