Description
The patient is a 57-year-old male who presents with nontraumatic, acute onset, worsening left knee pain which started 2 days ago. The symptoms are similar to an episode experienced 1 year ago which resolved. The pain is accompanied by swelling, erythema, and tenderness. It is worse with ambulation and movement such as bending. He takes ibuprofen 200 mg 2 tablets daily with little to no relief. He has a history of hypertension and osteoarthritis, and recently started on HCTZ 25 mg daily. He does not exercise regularly, walks occasionally, and is on a mediterranean diet. He reports eating high sodium foods.
