Description

Case of Dale

From a Constructivist perspective Dale, a 52-year-old white man that works for a prison and was referred to counseling due to two recent physical altercations with prisoners, follows a “narrative” (West-Olatunji & Rush-Ossenbeck, 2016, p. 421) that since he had to pull himself “up by [his] bootstraps” from extreme poverty while others of color and nonwhite background “got services and support”; he is superior to them and others and as such needs to be in control or an authority over others since he could not control his own life.

Adding to this story are his claims and beliefs that his ex-wife, of 6 years, was a “lying whore” and cheating on him while he was “working long hours as a police officer” and as such he “can’t really trust women”. Also, that the lazy “Mexicans and Blacks are taking over his country”.

Dale was an officer for 18 years before being terminated due to racial profiling. Worked as a bouncer for 4 years, until pursing a better paying job with benefits, eventually getting hired on by the prison.
